沖縄に鉄道が出来るまでは「日本最南端」でしたが、その後「本土最南端」を経て「JR最南端」に代わりました。 鉄道ファンならここに鉄道で訪れて記念写真を撮らなければならないそうですが、残念ながら列車の時刻に合わせるだけの余裕がなく レンタカーでイカサマして訪れました。
This station was called "Station is most south in Japan" until station built in Okinawa. Now, it is called "A station most south in JR owns".
ちなみに、隣の大山駅はJR最南端の有人駅です。

この駅を撮影するときのお約束の構図、最南端の碑と開聞岳。
When the person who came takes a picture at this station, I photograph the most with such a composition. The mountain to see behind is "Kaimon Dake".
お約束の構図から反対側を向くとこんな風景。集落から離れたところにあるので、周辺はほぼ畑です。
The station does such a structure. There are few private houses around a station. Most are fields.
最南端の看板と駅名票。これもお約束構図の一つです。
The indication indicating this place being the south most is set up by the platform of the station.
また、東西南北の「端」を示す看板も立てられています。 最西端は松浦鉄道の「たびら平戸口」なんですが、ここではJR限定で佐世保駅が最西端になっています。
I show this indication what kind of station is to the north, the east and the west most in Japan. The station in the west "Tabira Hiratoguchi," but this station is least the station which JR owns. Therefore "Sasebo" which is the station which JR owns is described with this signboard.
