闘牛でおなじみ宇和島と九州方面へのフェリー乗り場がある八幡浜の間にある街、西予にある駅です。 駅前の古風な街並みを観光地として推しているほか、歴史文化博物館の最寄でもあります。
The bullfighting town is located between Yawatahama where Uwajima is famous and a ferry platform. Near the station there is a street that reproduces the old townscape, and sightseeing is done. In addition, the museum is nearby, and events are frequently held.

駅の構造は昔ながらの島式+駅舎側対向式です。屋根がほとんどないので、特急列車で端のほうにのっていると 雨の日にはいきなり濡れる羽目になります。
The structure of the station follows the structure of traditional Japanese stations. Since the platform has no roof, it will get wet if you get off the express train on a rainy day.
駅前の風景。この時は午前中で、しかも天気が悪かったせいか車も人も全然いませんでした。 奥のほうに見える門のような建物の向こう側には国道56号線が横切っているので、そこまで行くとそれなりに交通量があります。
駅舎も昔ながらのもの。建物の右半分は現代風に？改装してコンビニっぽい売店が入っています。
